Proof Putting Golf App Design.

Golf putting tracker app design for Proof Putting — a mobile app that records every putt, measures improvement over time, and turns solo practice into something competitive. Craxinno designed the full iOS and Android experience in Figma, built in Swift and Kotlin, in 2025.

Putting decides scores. It's also the part of the game golfers practice worst — no feedback loop, no record of what worked, no way to tell a good session from a lucky one. The app closes that gap.

The Problem With Practicing Putts

A golfer can hit two hundred putts on a practice green and leave knowing nothing. Made or missed is not data. Was the miss short or long? Left or right? Better or worse than last week? From four feet or fourteen?

Without a record, practice is repetition without learning. That's the design problem: capture the putt in one tap, on a green, with a phone in one hand — then turn the accumulated taps into something a golfer will actually act on.

The Design Challenge

Logging has to be near-invisible. Any friction and the golfer stops recording mid-round — the app dies at the point of data entry.

Working requirements:

  • Log a putt in a single tap, without breaking rhythm
  • Support three distinct intents in one app without cluttering any of them
  • Make statistics legible at a glance, not analyst-grade
  • Stay readable in direct sunlight on a course
  • Add competitive pull without making practice feel like a chore
  • Surface upgrade prompts without interrupting a session

Three Modes, One App

The core structural decision. Rather than one bloated tracker, the app splits by intent:

Practice Mode
Deliberate, structured repetition. Distance-tagged putts feeding into statistics that show where accuracy actually breaks down — the five-footers, the downhill left-to-rights, whatever the golfer's real weakness is. This is where improvement gets measured.

Normal Mode
On-course logging during a real round. Minimal UI, maximum speed. Log and move — no menus, no confirmation dialogs, no interruption to play.

Game Mode
Competitive challenges and leaderboards. This is the retention engine. Practice tracking is a habit that decays; competition is a habit that compounds.

Each mode has its own screen logic, so none of them inherits the others' clutter.

Data That Changes Behavior

Statistics are only useful if a golfer knows what to do next. The stats screens avoid dashboards and dense charts in favor of clear reads: where you're losing strokes, whether you're improving, what to work on this week.

The design borrows from fitness tracking rather than sports analytics — trend over table, signal over volume.

Leaderboards and Competitive Design

The leaderboard turns a private practice log into a social one. Golfers are competitive by nature; giving practice a scoreboard converts a chore into a rivalry.

It also solves retention. A tracker with no stakes gets deleted after three weeks. A leaderboard with friends on it does not.

Monetization Without Friction

The upgrade prompt was designed as a modal that respects the moment — surfaced at a natural break, not mid-putt. A paywall that interrupts a round is a paywall that gets the app uninstalled.

Visual Direction

Built for outdoor use. High contrast, large tap targets, bold numerals, and a restrained palette that survives glare on a sunny green. Text stays readable at arm's length. Buttons stay hittable with a glove on.

Designed at iPhone 16 Pro Max scale, then held consistent across the Android build in Kotlin and the iOS build in Swift.

The Outcome

Proof Putting turns unstructured putting practice into a measurable, competitive habit. Golfers get a one-tap log, statistics that point at a real weakness, and a leaderboard that makes them come back.

Same principle as our conversion-focused SaaS work — reduce friction at the exact point where users drop off.
