Restaurant Order Management UI/UX Design

Order Guru is a restaurant order management system designed to help food-service businesses manage incoming orders from one clear and intuitive dashboard.

The platform brings pickup orders, delivery requests, customer details, payment information, preparation times, menu availability, ticket printing, and delivery dispatch into a unified interface.

Our goal was to design a restaurant dashboard that allows staff to understand each order’s status quickly, reduce operational confusion, and complete everyday tasks with fewer steps.

The Challenge

Restaurants often receive orders through multiple channels, including direct pickup requests and third-party delivery platforms such as DoorDash and Uber Eats.

Without a properly organized dashboard, employees may struggle to identify:

• Which orders are pending or ready
• When an order should be prepared
• Whether the customer has completed payment
• Which delivery platform is handling the order
• Which menu items are currently unavailable
• Where a delivery order needs to be dispatched

Order Guru needed a simple visual system that could present this information without overwhelming restaurant staff during busy service hours.

The Solution

We designed a responsive restaurant management dashboard that gives staff a complete view of active and completed orders.

Orders are organized by status, allowing employees to move quickly between pending, prepared, picked-up, and delivered orders. Important information such as customer details, payment status, tips, delivery method, preparation time, and order number is displayed clearly within each order.

The interface was designed for both web and mobile use, helping restaurant teams manage operations from different devices.

Key Features

Centralized Order Management

Restaurant staff can view pickup and delivery orders from a single dashboard.

Each order is categorized by its current status, including:

• Pending
• Preparing
• Prepared
• Ready for pickup
• Delivered

This structure helps employees prioritize orders and monitor progress throughout the preparation and delivery process.

Detailed Customer and Order Information

Each order includes essential information such as:

• Customer name
• Contact details
• Order number
• Ordered items
• Order placement time
• Expected preparation time
• Pickup or delivery method
• Delivery service provider

Displaying these details together reduces the need to move between multiple screens.

Payment and Tip Tracking

The restaurant dashboard clearly displays whether an order has been paid or is still awaiting payment.

Tips are shown separately, helping restaurant teams maintain greater visibility over individual order transactions.

Preparation Timers

Staff can set an estimated ready time for every order.

A visible countdown helps kitchen and service teams understand how much preparation time remains, allowing them to manage multiple orders more efficiently.

Order History

Completed orders are stored in an accessible order history.

Restaurant staff can use this section to review previous transactions, verify payment details, respond to customer questions, and investigate order-related issues.

Menu Availability Management

The menu management system allows staff to enable or disable individual food items.

When an item becomes unavailable, it can be removed from active ordering without changing the complete menu. This helps prevent customers from ordering items that the restaurant cannot currently prepare.

Automatic Ticket Printing

Order Guru includes printer configuration and automatic ticket-printing options.

When the system is connected to a supported printer, new order tickets can be printed automatically for the kitchen or service team.

Delivery Mapping and Dispatch

For delivery orders, restaurant staff can view the customer’s address and delivery route on a map.

This feature supports driver dispatch and helps teams monitor the delivery process after an order is ready.

UI/UX Design Approach

The Order Guru interface was designed around speed, clarity, and operational efficiency.

Clear order-status labels help staff recognize priorities immediately. Important information is grouped logically, while preparation timers and payment indicators remain visible during the order-management process.

The responsive layout provides a consistent experience across desktop and mobile devices, making the system suitable for restaurant managers, kitchen employees, counter staff, and delivery coordinators.
